Seeking Jobs/Internships as an ACCA Finalist
Hi everyone,
I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. I graduated with a B.Com in 2023 and decided to pursue my master’s in the UK, but unfortunately, it was far more challenging than I anticipated, and I didn’t complete it. I’ve successfully cleared 10 ACCA papers and have 3 remaining, but I’m back in India now and struggling to find opportunities, especially with the Big 4 firms.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions on where to look or how to improve my chances. Thank you!

First of all, it’s completely normal to feel stressed, especially after experiencing setbacks in your academic journey. It’s important to remember that many people face challenges along the way, and it doesn’t define your capabilities or future opportunities. Here are some suggestions to help you navigate this situation:
Networking: Reach out to former professors, classmates, and professionals in the field. Attend industry events, seminars, and webinars related to finance and Accounting. Networking can often lead to job opportunities that aren’t advertised.
Tailor Your Resume and Cover Letter: Make sure your resume highlights your achievements in the ACCA program and any relevant experience you may have. Be sure to tailor your cover letters for each position, emphasizing why you’re interested in that specific firm and role.
Consider Internships: If a full-time role isn’t immediately available, consider applying for internships. They can often lead to full-time positions and provide you with valuable experience and contacts.
Expand Your Search: While Big 4 firms are great, don’t limit yourself to them. Explore other Accounting firms or industries where your skills might be valuable. Smaller firms or companies in different sectors may offer valuable experiences too.
Use Online Platforms: Utilize job search engines, LinkedIn, and career services offered by universities. Join relevant groups and forums where jobs and internships are frequently shared.
Stay Positive and Resilient: Remember that rejection is a part of the process. It can take time to find the right opportunity, so try to stay motivated and keep honing your skills while you search.
Seek Guidance: If you have access to career services at your previous school, consider reaching out for advice or assistance with job hunting.
Keep Learning: While you’re looking for opportunities, consider taking up short courses or certifications that can enhance your skill set or make your profile more attractive to employers.
Lastly, practice self-care during this time. It’s important to manage stress and maintain a positive outlook on your future. You’ve already achieved a lot by clearing 10 ACCA papers; keep pushing forward, and the right opportunity will come your way!
