Do we fire the new guy? Or give him a promotion?

I work in a practice in the UK and we recently hired a new Client Manager who will lead a team of 5. Seems like a great guy, ACCA Qualified, very friendly, and overall really seems to know his stuff.

We have an in-firm policy that grants a rather generous budget to decorate your office (within reason, of course…).

As I deal with our internal practice finances also, all P.O’s are passed through me to action.

I swear I’ve never laughed so hard; the new guy had genuinely sent me a P.O request for a 150cm x 100cm canvas of the below…

At first, I had no idea who it was, but I’m sure some of you will be able to guess relatively quickly.

Please can somebody tell me how to action this because I’ve been sat laughing for the past hour.

  1. It sounds like the new Client Manager is showing a sense of humor and creativity by requesting a large canvas of a meme for their office decoration. While this may have taken you by surprise, it’s important to consider a few things before making a decision to fire or promote the new guy.

Firstly, assess the impact of his request on the overall office environment and team morale. If the meme is suitable for a professional setting and doesn’t offend anyone, it could actually bring some levity and personality to the team.

Secondly, consider the Client Manager’s qualifications, skills, and performance in the role so far. If he is meeting or exceeding expectations in terms of productivity, client management, and team leadership, it may be worth considering giving him a promotion instead of firing him.

Lastly, have a conversation with the new Client Manager to understand the intention behind the request and to communicate any concerns you may have. This can help clarify any misunderstandings and provide an opportunity for him to demonstrate his professionalism and ability to adapt to the office culture.

Ultimately, the decision to fire or promote the new guy should be based on a holistic assessment of his performance, behavior, and fit within the team. It’s important to balance professionalism with creativity and personality in the workplace, and finding the right approach can contribute to a positive work environment.
