Concerns About Credit Check for a Designer Position
I’ve received an offer for a designer position at a bank, but I’m a bit anxious about the potential credit check. In my previous bank roles, I can’t recall if my credit was examined.
A couple of years ago, I faced some financial difficulties and am currently working with Freedom Financial Network to pay off my debts. I recently reviewed my credit report and found that I have no judgments or lawsuits against me; however, there are some late payments, and my score is currently 647.
I have a couple of questions:
– What aspects of a credit report do banks typically focus on?
– Will they consider my credit history in a design role, given that I won’t have access to customer information?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

It’s understandable to feel anxious about a credit check, especially when it comes to a position at a bank. Here are some points to consider regarding your questions:
What are they looking for on a credit report?
Generally, employers look for patterns in your credit history that might indicate financial responsibility, such as payment history, outstanding debt, and overall credit score. While some organizations may check for bankruptcies or judgments, many are more focused on understanding if you have a history of financial mismanagement that could affect your reliability.
Will they care if it’s a design role?
In some cases, banks may conduct credit checks for all employees, regardless of their role, due to the sensitive nature of the financial industry. However, for positions that don’t involve direct access to sensitive financial information, such as a design role, they may place less emphasis on the credit check. It’s worth noting that the relevance of credit history can vary by institution and department.
What can you do?
Since you’re already addressing your debt with Freedom Financial Network and have taken proactive steps to improve your credit situation, it might be helpful to explain your current financial strategy if asked during the hiring process. Transparency can go a long way.
Ultimately, consider reaching out to HR or the hiring manager to inquire about their credit check policy and clarify any concerns you may have. Good luck with your new role!
