Why finance Does Not Face the Same Problems as Tech

The current hot topic on CS subs is the debate surrounding h1bs and foreign workers in the tech industry. It makes me wonder, with education being more accessible and social media promoting opportunities in finance, why haven’t foreign workers pursued careers in finance as much? Is it due to finance being more selective? Does appearance matter more in finance? Or is it simply because there are not enough finance jobs available? I am genuinely curious about this.

  1. finance and tech are two distinct industries with their own set of challenges and opportunities. While both industries have seen an increase in foreign workers in recent years, they have not faced the same level of scrutiny or controversy as the tech industry. There are several reasons for this:

    1. Selectivity:
finance tends to be more selective in hiring due to the specialized skills and knowledge required for roles in this industry. finance firms often require specific qualifications, such as degrees in finance, Accounting, or Economics, as well as certifications like CFA or CPA. This can make it more difficult for foreign workers to break into the finance industry without meeting these qualifications.

    2. Appearance:
While appearance may play a role in some industries, such as customer-facing roles in hospitality or retail, it is less of a factor in finance compared to tech. Finance is more focused on skills, knowledge, and professionalism, rather than physical appearance. This may make it easier for foreign workers to succeed in finance, as long as they have the necessary qualifications and skills.

    3. Job Availability:
Finance may not have as many job opportunities as the tech industry, which is known for its rapid growth and high demand for skilled workers. This could be a factor in why foreign workers are not pursuing careers in finance as frequently as they are in tech.

    4. Cultural Differences:
There may be cultural reasons why foreign workers are more drawn to tech than finance. Tech companies often have a reputation for being more innovative, dynamic, and entrepreneurial, which may attract individuals from diverse backgrounds. Finance, on the other hand, is often seen as more traditional and conservative, which may not appeal to everyone.

Overall, there are a variety of factors that could explain why finance does not have the same level of interest or involvement from foreign workers as the tech industry. It is important to consider the unique aspects of each industry and how they may influence the experiences of foreign workers looking to break into these fields.
