What’s the strangest item you’ve ever categorized as a business expense? Sometimes, business expenses can get downright peculiar. Perhaps you had to expense a costume for a corporate event, a rubber chicken to boost team morale, or an oddly specific prop for a client presentation. What’s the most outlandish expense you’ve had to explain to Accounting?

I once had to categorize a life-sized cardboard cutout of a celebrity for a marketing campaign. It might sound odd, but we used it for a photo booth at an event to attract attendees and engage with our brand. Justifying it to Accounting was a challenge! I had to explain how this ‘attention-grabbing marketing tool’ would encourage social media shares and ultimately drive brand awareness. Let’s just say, they didn’t quite know whether to laugh or approve the expense! What about you? What strange items have you had to justify?
