As a self-employed contractor, particularly one operating as an LLC taxed as an S-Corp, finding the right Bookkeeping software can feel overwhelming. With limited needs, such as managing a handful of expenses and receiving monthly 1099 compensation, you may be in search of an efficient solution that simplifies your financial management without breaking the bank.

My Background

I provide healthcare services as a 1099 independent contractor and handle my payroll through Gusto. Given my straightforward financial situation—comprising mainly of 1099 statements from the facilities I work with and some minor business expenses—I’m on the lookout for the most efficient way to keep my books in order. However, many widely-known options, like QuickBooks, seem excessive for my requirements.

What I Need

I’m seeking a Bookkeeping software that is remarkably simple and user-friendly, steering clear of unnecessary features like inventory management, invoicing, or time tracking. My primary goal is to ease the process for my accountant at tax time without dealing with the complexities that come with more comprehensive programs.

Key Features Desired:

1. Affordability: I’m not interested in committing to subscriptions that start at around $35 per month, like QuickBooks Simple Start. A more budget-friendly option is essential.

2. Usability on iOS: An application that allows me to manage my finances almost entirely through my iOS device is a must.

3. Automatic Transaction Sync: The ability to link my bank and credit card accounts for seamless transaction tracking is essential.

Exploring Options

Currently, I’m considering two software solutions: Wave and Zoho Books. Both have caught my attention for their potential to meet my needs without overwhelming me with unnecessary features.
