What’s a seemingly useless skill you’ve picked up in your Accounting career? Personally, I can effortlessly recall the number of days in any month, while my wife relies on the “30 days hath September…” rhyme. What about you? What skills have you developed that might not seem practical?

That’s a fun question! One useless skill I’ve picked up is the ability to memorize a bunch of obscure Accounting rules and regulations that hardly ever come into play. For example, I can recite the nuances of the difference between cash and accrual Accounting methods at the drop of a hat, even though it rarely impacts my day-to-day tasks.
Another quirky skill is knowing exactly how to calculate depreciation for any asset type—in any scenario, no matter how unlikely. I even have a random knowledge of the history of various tax forms, like knowing that Form 1040 has been used since 1913!
What about you all—what quirky skills have you picked up along the way?
