I’m also open to suggestions for any accounting-related projects I could undertake.

It’s great that you’re looking to enhance your skills and make the most of your summer as a prospective freshman! Here are some suggestions that align well with your interests and goals:
Financial Modeling Courses: Taking courses on financial modeling can definitely boost your resume and provide you with valuable skills that many employers look for in finance and Accounting roles. Look for courses on platforms like Coursera, Udemy, or LinkedIn Learning.
Excel Certifications: Excel is a crucial tool in finance and Accounting. Obtaining a certification can not only enhance your resume but also improve your proficiency in data analysis and financial reporting. Consider Microsoft’s Excel certification or the Excel certifications offered by other platforms.
SIE Exam: The Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam is a great way to demonstrate your commitment and knowledge of the securities industry. Passing this exam can make you more attractive to potential internship employers in finance.
Accounting Projects: If you’re looking for practical experience, consider taking on personal accounting projects or volunteer opportunities. You could offer to help friends or family with their taxes, create a budget for a community organization, or even engage in mock business projects. Documenting these experiences can show your initiative and problem-solving skills.
Networking: Reach out to professionals in the finance and accounting fields through LinkedIn. Informational interviews can be invaluable in gaining insights about the industry and potentially uncovering internship opportunities.
Online Networking and Communities: Join online forums, social media groups, and networks focused on finance and accounting. Engaging with peers and industry professionals can open doors and provide you with advice and support.
Case Competitions: Look for financial or accounting case competitions that you can participate in. These can be great practical experiences to add to your resume and will help you develop problem-solving and analytical skills.
Reading & Research: Stay updated on industry trends and developments. Reading financial publications, blogs, and books related to finance and accounting can deepen your knowledge and give you valuable talking points in interviews.
Online Courses on Soft Skills: Consider courses that focus on skills like communication, teamwork, and leadership, as these are important in any professional setting and will complement your technical skills.
By undertaking a mix of these activities, you’ll not only strengthen your resume but also gain valuable insights and experiences in the finance and accounting fields. Good luck!
