Exploring Admission Options for UWI St. Augustine’s BSc Accounting Program Without CAPE, an Associate Degree, or Mature Student Status
Hello everyone,
I recently submitted my application for the BSc in Accounting program at UWI St. Augustine and overlooked the fact that CAPE is a prerequisite. While I have successfully completed my CSEC examinations, I lack a certificate or associate degree, and I’m not classified as a mature student.
What options are available for students who find themselves in this situation? Does UWI offer foundation courses (FOUN) or alternative pathways to help meet the program’s entry requirements? Am I likely to face an outright rejection due to not meeting the typical criteria?
I would really appreciate any advice or shared experiences on this matter. Thank you!

Hi there,
It’s great that you’re taking the initiative to pursue a degree in Accounting! While UWI St. Augustine has specific entry requirements, there are a few pathways you might consider in your situation.
Foundation Courses: UWI often offers foundation programs or courses designed to help students meet entry requirements. You might want to check if they have a foundation program to enable you to build the necessary academic qualifications.
Access and Bridging Programs: Some institutions offer bridging courses that help students transition into university-level studies. It’s worth reaching out to UWI to see if they have such options or if you could take relevant courses elsewhere that would be recognized by the university.
Alternative Qualifications: Look for other recognized qualifications that may be accepted for admission. Some vocational or professional qualifications might be considered, depending on UWI’s policies.
Contact Admissions: Directly contacting the admissions office at UWI could provide you with the most accurate information. They can give you guidance on your specific situation, potential alternative pathways, and whether there might be any exemptions or flexibility regarding your qualifications.
Consider Other Programs: If this program is a hard requirement but you are interested in pursuing Accounting, you might look into other institutions or programs that have different entry criteria that might be a better fit for your current qualifications.
I hope you find these suggestions helpful! Don’t get discouraged, and keep exploring your options. Good luck!
