What are signs or traits that made you think that Accountancy is for you?

Embracing the Journey: Signs That Accountancy Might Be Your Path

As a prospective Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) student at UPLB, I find myself at a crucial juncture in my academic journey. Transitioning from a STEM-focused background in a Science High School, I am excited yet apprehensive about my choice to delve into the world of Accountancy. My interest in this field stems from a few key experiences and inspirations:

  1. Natural Affinity for Finance: Since childhood, I have taken pleasure in managing and tracking money. My knack for financial oversight led to my election as treasurer in various school activities. Unlike many who perceive financial management as a daunting task, I relish the challenges it presents.

  2. Family Influence: My mother is a proud BSA graduate, and while she has cautioned me about the rigors of the program, her journey continues to inspire me. Her perspective on the field, combined with her encouragement, has played a vital role in my decision to pursue Accountancy.

  3. Problem-Solving Skills: I have always enjoyed the thrill of analyzing situations and finding effective solutions. In fact, my passion for mathematics often surpasses my enthusiasm for science, further fueling my interest in Accountancy.

However, as I stand on the brink of this new chapter, a wave of uncertainty washes over me. I haven’t yet fully immersed myself in Accountancy, leaving me unsure whether my enthusiasm is grounded in genuine interest or merely an admiration from afar. What if the reality of the field doesn’t match my expectations, just as I discovered that Science wasn’t my true passion?

With this in mind, I seek your guidance:

  • What characteristics or habits contribute to success in a BSA program?
  • For those who transitioned to Accountancy from non-ABM backgrounds, what strategies helped you adapt?
  • Is it common to feel uncertain before committing to such a demanding course?

Any advice, insights, or personal anecdotes from your experiences would be immensely appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to help ease my concerns! Your support means a lot. 🫶
