Navigating Career Challenges in Public Accounting: A Personal Reflection

As a professional working in Audit at a prestigious top 10 firm, I recently faced a significant setback: I was not promoted to the senior level this year. While I understand the rationale behind this decision, it has left me feeling increasingly uncertain about my career trajectory in this demanding field.

Throughout this past year, it has become clear that many of my peers demonstrate a stronger command of their responsibilities. This recognition isn’t meant to undermine my efforts, but rather to highlight the reality that I often feel overwhelmed by my workload. Despite the long hours—typically exceeding 10 hours a day—I struggle to complete my tasks efficiently, which further adds to my mental exhaustion.
