Considering a Career in Accounting
I’m interested in pursuing a career in Accounting and I’m curious if there are any other subjects I should focus on besides mathematics and IT. After I finish school, I plan to embark on an Accounting apprenticeship, starting with the initial part of a degree (I’m unsure if it’s classified as a degree or something different), and then continue my studies while working at the company I join. Just to note, I’m currently not taking my GCSEs or involved in any career-related activities at school. Any advice would be appreciated!

It’s great to hear that you’re interested in pursuing a career in Accounting! While maths and IT are definitely important subjects for Accounting, there are a few other areas you might want to consider improving in:
Business Studies: Understanding the basics of business operations and finance can give you a broader perspective on how Accounting fits into the larger picture.
Economics: This can help you comprehend market dynamics and the impact of economic factors on businesses, which is useful for accounting and financial decision-making.
English: Strong communication skills are essential in accounting, as you’ll need to explain financial information clearly and write reports.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: These skills will help you analyze financial data and make sound judgments based on your findings.
Organizational Skills: Accounting often requires managing multiple tasks and maintaining attention to detail. Developing your organizational skills will benefit you greatly.
For your apprenticeship and further studies, be sure to research the specific requirements of the programs you’re interested in, as they might have additional prerequisites. Good luck on your journey into accounting!
