SBL + APM overlap?

Subject: Overlap Between SBL and APM?

Hello everyone!

I’ve heard that there’s some overlap in the theory between the SBL and APM syllabi for the exam. Is this overlap significant?

I’m currently weighing my options between APM and AFM and am considering taking one of those as an option paper alongside SBL. If there is considerable overlap between APM and SBL, it might make my study time more efficient.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or clarification on this topic. Thank you! 🙂

  1. Hi there!

Yes, there is indeed some overlap between the SBL (Strategic Business Leadership) and APM (Advanced Management Performance) syllabi, especially in terms of strategic management concepts and frameworks. Both papers emphasize understanding the broader business environment, strategic decision-making, and stakeholder considerations.

However, the depth and focus of content can differ. SBL is more focused on integrating various business functions and applying strategic leadership skills in a practical context, while APM goes deeper into performance management and related analytical techniques.

If you’re planning to take SBL along with either APM or AFM (Advanced Financial Management), it might be more time-efficient to choose APM, given the closer alignment of themes like strategy and performance management. This approach could help reinforce your learning through interconnected concepts.

Ultimately, your choice should also depend on your career goals and interests. If you see yourself in a strategic leadership role, SBL combined with APM could be a valuable path. If finance is your key interest, AFM might be the better option.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your studies! 😊
