Salary Advice (London, UK)
I’m excited to share that I’ve qualified as an ACCA member in the September 2024 session!
My manager has proposed a salary package for me to stay in my current role, which includes:
- £50k base salary
- £4k performance bonus
This offer would be effective retroactively from January 2025.
With three years of experience under my belt and at just 24 years old, I’m looking for advice on whether I should accept this offer or explore other job opportunities.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on qualifying as an ACCA member! That’s a significant achievement, especially at your age.
In terms of salary, a base of £50k plus a £4k bonus seems competitive for a newly qualified accountant in London, especially considering your three years of experience. However, whether you should accept this offer or look for another role depends on a few factors:
Market Research: Look into the current market rates for ACCA-qualified accountants in London. Websites like Glassdoor, Payscale, or LinkedIn Salary Insights can give you a better understanding of what other companies are offering.
Career Goals: Think about your long-term career goals. Does your current role and company align with where you see yourself in the next few years? If you are happy with your current job and see opportunities for growth, it might be worth staying.
Company Culture and Work-Life Balance: Consider the work environment, company culture, and work-life balance at your current job. These factors can often make a job more rewarding than just the salary.
Potential for Growth: Assess the potential for salary increases, promotions, or professional development opportunities if you stay at your current job versus what you might find elsewhere.
Job Market Conditions: Evaluate the job market. Are there many opportunities available relevant to your field? If the market is strong, it might be a good time to explore other options.
Networking and Mentorship: Speak to mentors or colleagues in the industry who can provide insights about their experiences and what they think about your offer compared to the market.
Ultimately, if you feel the offer aligns well with your career goals, and the company is a good fit for you, it could be a solid choice. However, if you feel undervalued or seek new challenges, it might be worth exploring other opportunities. Good luck with your decision!
