Is it possible to land an Accounting job without a degree?
I’m a 24-year-old who spent three years working in my grandfather’s auto repair shop, where I took on a wide range of responsibilities. My official title was “Bookkeeper/Manager,” but I handled everything from service writing to Bookkeeping, payroll, an array of financial/business reports, taxes for both the business and my grandfather, and even a financial Audit to uncover embezzlement by the previous manager and accountant.
Although I attended school for Accounting, I never completed a degree and only earned a few credits. I’ve always excelled in this field but find the formal schooling aspect challenging.
Do I stand a chance of securing an Accounting job or a similar financial role given my hands-on experience, even though I lack a degree? I’m curious if others have landed jobs without formal degrees or if anyone has a story about starting in a family business and transitioning to a mid-level position based on their experience.
