Question about PLLC
I’m planning to start an online dating website in Florida and recently obtained a PLLC through LegalZoom. I don’t have any certifications and won’t be offering professional services. Can I continue operating under the PLLC, or should I switch to an LLC?
Thanks for your help!

If you’re planning to run an online dating website in Florida and have been given a PLLC (Professional Limited Liability Company) by LegalZoom, you’ll likely want to switch to a standard LLC (Limited Liability Company). A PLLC is generally intended for professional services requiring a license or certification, such as those provided by doctors, lawyers, or accountants. Since you’re not offering any licensed professional services, operating under a PLLC may not be appropriate or necessary for your online dating business.
Here’s what you should consider:
Business Structure: Confirm with LegalZoom or consult a local attorney to understand the implications of holding a PLLC versus an LLC for your specific business model.
State Requirements: Make sure to comply with Florida’s regulations regarding business entities and ensure that your business name complies with state naming guidelines.
Liability Protection: Both LLCs and PLLCs offer liability protection, but switching to an LLC may simplify your business structure and avoid confusion about your business’s purpose.
Filing Process: If you decide to change your PLLC to an LLC, you’ll need to follow Florida’s procedures for dissolving the PLLC and forming the LLC. This might include filing specific forms and potentially paying fees.
It’s always a good idea to seek professional legal advice to ensure you’re making the best decision for your business. Good luck with your online dating website!
