PLEASE talk me into studying really hard for the next 2 weeks

I really need some encouragement to study hard over the next two weeks. I’m feeling incredibly overwhelmed and frustrated, and I need to vent a bit. It’s a long story, but I’m scheduled to take the FAR exam next Friday, and I feel completely unprepared. I have resources like Vishal and Ninja, but I’ve barely used them, which is further draining my motivation to even try.

On top of that, I struggle with migraines and work a full-time job, so when I get home, the last thing I want to do is study for something I’m not excited about. I work for a nonprofit as the head accountant and am set to step into my boss’s role as CFO when she retires in a few years. I’ve been told that getting my license is essential for that transition, but there are times when my boss hints that it isn’t as important, which only adds to my uncertainty and motivation issues.

I’ve known since college that I didn’t want to pursue my license, but after a Zoom session with Vishal, I was convinced to go for it, which led me to take out a loan that I can’t really afford. When I graduated three years ago, I worked in public Accounting for a while and absolutely hated it. Now, I have this job that I actually like, but I feel trapped by the expectations around getting licensed.

I just feel so defeated and overwhelmed, and I could really use some reassurance that I can at least give this a shot—that even people who feel lost can succeed in getting licensed. Any words of encouragement would mean the world to me right now.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a really tough spot right now, and it’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed. First off, I want to acknowledge how much you’re juggling—working full-time in a high-pressure role and preparing for an important exam is no small feat, especially with migraines in the mix. Give yourself credit for the hard work you’ve put in so far, even if it doesn’t feel like enough right now.

Remember, the next two weeks are an opportunity—not just to become a licensed professional, but to show yourself what you’re truly capable of. You’ve got this! While it might feel like a mountain to climb, breaking your study time into smaller, manageable chunks can make it feel less daunting. Focus on the progress you can make each day rather than the end goal.

Also, think about why you started this journey in the first place. Yes, it’s about the license, but it’s also about moving up in your career and doing something that can ultimately benefit your life. Working towards the CFO position means having more control over your finances, growth in your profession, and the ability to influence important decisions. That goal is worth fighting for!

You’ve already shown remarkable resilience by navigating your career as head accountant. You’re already capable of so much more than you might give yourself credit for. Just because you feel stuck now doesn’t mean you can’t push through and get to the other side.

And remember, even the most successful people have doubts and hit roadblocks. You’re not alone in feeling this way. Lean into whatever resources you have, including your study materials and any support you can find. You can do this! Put aside the negativity for just a bit, focus on the task at hand, and remind yourself that every little bit of study counts toward your success.

Lastly, you’re not a moron! You’re a smart, capable person who’s facing a challenge. Take it step by step, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support when you need it. You can do this! 💪

  2. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed given the circumstances you’ve shared. Juggling a full-time job, dealing with migraines, and preparing for a demanding exam like the FAR can be incredibly daunting, especially when you’re grappling with uncertainty about your career path.

First, I want to emphasize that your feelings of frustration and doubt are valid. Many professionals face similar struggles, and it’s important to remember that you’re not alone in this journey. The pressure to obtain your license can feel immense, especially when there seems to be mixed signals about its value from your current workplace. However, obtaining your license can open many doors and enhance your credibility and confidence in your role, especially as you prepare for a future leadership position.

As you prepare for the exam in these next two weeks, consider breaking your study sessions into smaller, more manageable tasks. This can make the overwhelming material feel less daunting and help you regain a sense of control. Utilize your resources like Vishal and Ninja strategically — perhaps set specific goals for each study session to keep yourself accountable.

Finally, remember to prioritize self-care during this time. Taking short breaks or engaging in relaxation techniques can help manage stress and potentially alleviate some migraine triggers. It’s okay to acknowledge that this period is tough; giving yourself grace and focusing on progress rather than perfection can be incredibly motivating.

You’ve already shown tremendous resilience by pursuing this path, and I have no doubt you have the strength to give this your best shot. You’ve got this!
