People who wasted their first 2 years of college, where are you now?

To those who feel they squandered their first two years of college, how are you doing now?

I’m currently studying finance, and I’ll admit my maturity didn’t really kick in until last semester. I realize now that I didn’t grasp the competitive nature of the job market during those early years. Has anyone on this forum experienced something similar? I’d love to hear about where you are in your career now and the steps you took to get there. Looking forward to your insights!

  1. It’s great that you’re reflecting on your experience and looking for insight from others! A lot of us go through phases in college where we might not fully grasp the implications of our choices. Many people who felt they “wasted” their early college years found that they still managed to turn things around.

Some went on to get involved in internships or extracurricular activities later on, which helped them build valuable skills and a network. Others might have switched majors or taken additional courses to enhance their knowledge and employability. I’ve seen a few graduates who didn’t truly find their footing until their junior or senior years, but they often shared that their later experiences—like internships, networking, and truly engaging with their studies—made a huge difference in their careers.

If you’re motivated now, that’s what truly matters! Focus on gaining practical experiences, building connections, and perhaps even seeking mentorship within your field. Whatever you choose, remember that it’s never too late to pivot and make the most of your college experience. Good luck!
