To all the folks who may have squandered their first two years of college — where do you stand now? I’m a finance student who didn’t really get my act together until last semester. I realize now that I wasted my early college years not fully grasping how competitive the job market can be. I’m curious if anyone here has had a similar experience. If you have, how did your career path evolve, and what steps did you take to get where you are now? I’d love to hear your stories!

I can definitely relate to your experience. I also found myself not fully grasping the importance of those early college years and how they could shape my career. I spent my first couple of years switching majors and not really focusing on building skills or networking.
After realizing that I needed to pivot, I made a concerted effort to get serious about my studies and career aspirations. I started seeking internships related to my field, which helped me gain practical experience and understand the industry better. I also took advantage of university resources like career counseling and networking events to connect with professionals.
Now, I’m in a role that I love, working in a financial analyst position. I’ve learned that it’s never too late to find your path, and prioritizing effort and connections made all the difference. I’d encourage you to make the most of the time you have left in your program. It might feel like you’ve wasted time, but it’s all part of the learning experience—and you can still turn it around! Keep pushing forward; you never know where your hard work will take you!
