Breaking into Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After Earning My CPA
Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out today to share my experiences and seek advice on a challenging transition I’m currently facing in my career. Recently, I successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam, completed the requisite 150 credits, and have a background as both a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in the logistics sector. In these roles, I honed my skills in data management, planning, and reporting, and I’ve become quite proficient in tools like Excel and Power BI.
My goal has been to pivot into public Accounting to facilitate a long-term move to the U.S., and I’m currently situated in Texas. However, I’m encountering significant hurdles in my job search. Many firms seem to be looking for candidates with specific qualifications, including:
- A degree in Accounting from a U.S. institution
- A minimum of one year of experience in public accounting
Unfortunately, I do not possess these credentials, which has led to difficulties in securing even initial interviews.
I’m open to various opportunities, with a starting salary around $60K, and I’m flexible regarding relocation. Even positions at smaller local CPA firms would be a great fit for me. Pursuing a master’s degree isn’t a feasible option at this time, as I have a dependent to support.
I know there are others who have navigated similar pathways, so I would greatly appreciate any insights, strategies, or advice you may have on entering the public accounting field without local qualifications or prior experience. Thank you for your support!
