Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Navigating the Job Market Post-CPA: Seeking Opportunities in Public Accounting

Hello everyone,

I am excited to share that I have successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam and obtained 150 credits towards my education. My background includes hands-on experience as a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in the logistics sector. Throughout my career, I have developed a strong proficiency in data management, reporting, and advanced tools like Excel and Power BI.

Recently, I made the decision to pivot into public Accounting as part of a long-term plan to settle in the U.S. I am currently residing in Texas, but I’ve encountered some significant hurdles in the job market. It appears that many firms have specific requirements that pose a challenge for someone in my situation:

  • A U.S. Accounting degree
  • At least one year of experience in public accounting

Unfortunately, I do not meet these criteria, and securing interviews has proven to be quite difficult.

I want to clarify that I am not particularly selective when it comes to job offers—I am willing to accept a position with a salary around $60,000 and am open to relocating if necessary. I am also considering local CPA firms as potential employers. However, pursuing a master’s degree isn’t a viable option for me at this time, as I have a dependent to support.

If anyone has navigated a similar transition or has insights on how to break into public Accounting without local credentials or experience, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Thank you for any guidance you can provide!
