Breaking Into Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After CPA Success
Hello, readers!
I am excited to share that I have successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam and possess 150 college credits. My background includes experience as a Financial Analyst and Operations Analyst in the logistics sector, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I’m adept at working with data and have strong proficiency in tools such as Excel and Power BI.
Having made the decision to transition into public Accounting as part of my long-term goal to establish roots in the United States, I am currently residing in Texas. However, I have encountered significant obstacles in my job search. It appears that many firms prioritize candidates with:
- A U.S. Accounting degree
- At least one year of public accounting experience
Unfortunately, I do not meet these criteria, which has made securing interviews a challenging endeavor.
I am not overly selective in my job search—I would be happy to pursue positions around the $60,000 salary mark and am willing to relocate if necessary. Additionally, I am open to opportunities at local CPA firms. Pursuing a master’s program is not a viable option for me at the moment, as I have a dependent to support.
I am reaching out to the community to seek advice and insights from those who may have faced similar challenges. If you have successfully navigated a career transition into public accounting without local credentials or experience, your guidance would be invaluable. What strategies worked for you? How did you get your foot in the door?
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to your suggestions!
