Navigating the Transition to Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After Passing the CPA Exam
Hello, everyone!
I recently achieved a significant milestone by passing all sections of the CPA exam and accumulating 150 credit hours. My professional background includes experience as a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in logistics, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I am well-versed in data analysis and possess advanced proficiency in Excel and Power BI.
With aspirations of building a career in public Accounting and a long-term goal of establishing myself in the U.S., I’ve relocated to Texas. However, I’m currently facing some challenges in landing interviews for positions at Accounting firms.
I’ve found that many firms typically seek candidates with:
- A degree in accounting from a U.S. institution
- At least one year of public accounting experience
Unfortunately, I don’t meet these criteria, which has made it increasingly difficult to secure interviews.
I’m flexible with my job search—I’m considering positions at around $60,000 and am open to relocation, including opportunities at local CPA firms. However, pursuing a master’s program isn’t an option for me at this moment, as I have a dependent to care for.
Has anyone in the community navigated a similar career transition? I would greatly value any advice or insights on how to break into public accounting without the typical local credentials or previous public accounting experience. Your support and suggestions would mean a lot to me as I work toward my goal. Thank you!
