Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Breaking Into Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After Passing the CPA Exam

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share that I have successfully passed all four sections of the CPA exam and hold 150 credits towards my education. My background includes experience as both a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in the logistics sector, where I engaged extensively in data management, planning, and reporting. I’m highly skilled in data analysis tools such as Excel and Power BI.

With a goal to transition into public Accounting for a stable future in the United States, I recently relocated to Texas. However, I’ve encountered significant challenges in my job search. Many firms seem to have stringent requirements, including:

  • A U.S. Accounting degree
  • A minimum of one year of public accounting experience

Unfortunately, I do not meet these specific criteria, and as a result, securing interviews has been an uphill battle.

I want to clarify that I am not looking for high-paying roles; I would consider positions in the vicinity of $60,000, and I’m flexible about relocation, including opportunities at local CPA firms. Pursuing a master’s degree is not a feasible option at the moment, as I have a dependent to support.

I am reaching out to see if anyone out there has faced a similar predicament. If you have successfully navigated this transition, I would greatly appreciate your insights, advice, or any strategies on how to break into the public accounting field without the local credentials or experience typically desired.

Thank you in advance for your help!
