Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Navigating the Transition to Public Accounting: Overcoming Employment Challenges After Passing the CPA Exam

Hello everyone,

I am excited to share that I have successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam and hold 150 credits. My career background includes roles as a Financial Analyst and Operations Analyst within the logistics sector, where I honed my planning, reporting, and data management skills. My proficiency with data analysis tools, particularly Excel and Power BI, has been a significant asset in my previous positions.

Having made the decision to pursue a career in public Accounting as a step towards a long-term move to the United States, I currently reside in Texas. However, I have encountered substantial hurdles in my job search. A common trend among employers is their preference for candidates who possess:

  • A U.S. Accounting degree
  • At least one year of experience in public accounting

Unfortunately, I do not meet these specific criteria, which has made it challenging to secure interviews.

I want to emphasize that I’m open to various opportunities, including positions with a salary around $60,000, and I am willing to relocate if necessary. Given my current situation, enrolling in a master’s program is not a feasible option, as I need to support a dependent.

Has anyone else experienced a similar journey in transitioning to public accounting? I would greatly appreciate any insights, tips, or advice on how to break into this field without the local credentials or the requisite experience. Your guidance could make a significant difference in my career path! Thank you in advance for your support.
