Breaking into Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After Passing the CPA Exam
Hello everyone,
I’m excited to share that I’ve successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam and have accrued 150 college credits. My previous experience includes working as a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in logistics, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I am well-versed in handling data and have advanced proficiency in tools like Excel and Power BI.
My goal is to transition to public Accounting to set the foundation for a long-term career in the U.S., where I have recently settled in Texas. However, I have encountered some significant hurdles in my job search. Many firms appear to prioritize candidates who hold a U.S. Accounting degree and have at least one year of public accounting experience. Unfortunately, I don’t meet these criteria, which has made securing interviews challenging.
While I’m flexible regarding job opportunities and salary—around $60,000 is acceptable—and I’m willing to relocate, I’ve found the process discouraging. Pursuing a master’s degree isn’t feasible right now, as I have a dependent to care for.
I’m reaching out to this community in hopes of finding advice or shared experiences. Has anyone here navigated a similar transition? Any insights on how to break into public accounting without the traditional local credentials or experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support!
