Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Navigating the Path to Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After Passing the CPA Exam

Hello, Readers!

I am excited to share that I have recently conquered the CPA exam, successfully passing all sections. With 150 college credits to my name and an extensive background in finance, including roles as both a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in logistics, I am well-versed in planning, reporting, and data management. My proficiency in tools like Excel and Power BI adds to my skill set, making me comfortable in data-heavy environments.

With aspirations to transition into public Accounting and establish a long-term career in the U.S., I’ve settled in Texas. However, I find myself facing a significant hurdle: finding job opportunities. Many firms seem to have specific prerequisites, such as:

  • A degree in Accounting from a U.S. institution, and
  • At least one year of public accounting experience.

Unfortunately, I don’t have either of these qualifications, and it’s proving difficult to secure interviews.

I am not particularly selective regarding job offers; I would be content with a starting salary around $60K and am even open to relocating for the right opportunity, including positions at local CPA firms. Given my current circumstances, pursuing a master’s program isn’t feasible, as I have a dependent to support.

I am reaching out to this community for guidance. If you have successfully navigated a similar career transition, I would greatly value your insights. How did you break into public accounting without local credentials or experience? Any advice or strategies would be immensely helpful as I seek to build my career in this field.

Thank you for your support!
