Seeking Guidance on PER Approvals with a Non-English Speaking Employer
Hello everyone,
I’m currently working in Japan and have recently embarked on my ACCA journey. My background is in supply chain management, and I felt the need to enhance my financial knowledge moving forward. However, my employer is not very familiar with the ACCA qualification. I’ve explained that it’s a chartered accountancy program and that I need their approval on my work experience as a cash flow analyst. They seem to be receptive to the idea, but I’m unsure about how to navigate the process regarding the ACCA website.
Do I need to have my employer approved by ACCA before I can proceed, or can I simply register them online?
I apologize for any confusion and would appreciate any clarification on my situation. Thank you!

It’s great that you’re taking steps towards completing your ACCA qualifications! Dealing with a non-English speaking employer can be a bit tricky, but with the right approach, you can navigate the process smoothly. Here are some steps you can consider:
Clarify the Process: First, make sure you fully understand the experience requirements for ACCA and what documentation is needed from your employer. This will help you explain things more clearly to your employer.
Simple Communication: Since your employer may not be familiar with ACCA, consider preparing a brief summary in their language explaining what ACCA is, the significance of your qualification, and why their support is crucial. Highlight how your role as a cash flow analyst relates to the experience requirements.
Discuss the Approval: You don’t need to get your employer approved by ACCA upfront. Instead, you can focus on getting them registered on the ACCA website as your employer. ACCA has a section on their site specifically for submitting details about your workplace and your supervisor.
Guide Them Through the Registration: If possible, help your employer navigate the ACCA website. You might want to have the website translated if language is a barrier, or assist them in filling out the necessary forms. It’s important that they accurately understand their role in this process.
Offer Support: Assure your employer that you’re there to help if they have any questions. Providing them with resources from the ACCA website (like FAQs or guidance documents) might also ease any concerns they have.
Follow Up: After your initial conversation, check in periodically to ensure they feel comfortable with the process and are still on board with signing off on your work experience.
Be Patient and Flexible: Language barriers can complicate discussions, so approach the situation with understanding. Be patient as your employer navigates this new information.
Remember, clear and respectful communication is key in this scenario. Good luck with your ACCA journey! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
