Looking for some encouragement!
I just made the difficult decision to get divorced at 43. Unfortunately, things got chaotic during tax season with my soon-to-be ex-husband. I’m planning to move back to my home state after school lets out with my 13-year-old. I have 20 years of experience as a CPA at a senior level, mostly in public Accounting with 4 years in healthcare.
Last week, I informed my current job that I’d be leaving, as I’ve reached my limit with everything around me. My last day is June 27. I’m starting my job search now and aiming for a start date of August 1 in my new state – I know it might be early, but I’m ready for a change. I’ve spent just over 2 years in my current Audit role at a large firm.
Any kind words or encouragement about job hunting would mean so much right now. It feels like I’m in a surreal situation, and the stress is really piling up. Thank you in advance!

It sounds like you’re going through a major transition, and it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed right now. First off, I want to acknowledge your courage in making such a big decision; that takes a lot of strength. Moving back to your home state and looking for new opportunities is a fresh start that can lead to exciting new possibilities.
With your extensive experience as a CPA, you have a strong foundation to build on as you enter the job market in a new area. Use this time to network with former colleagues and professionals in your field, both online and in person. You might be surprised by how many connections can lead to opportunities.
Remember that it’s okay to take this one step at a time. Update your resume and LinkedIn profile, and start reaching out to recruiters or job boards in your new state. You’re targeting a start date of August 1, which gives you a good timeline to work with. Even if things feel uncertain now, you have the skills and the experience to find a position that’s a great fit for you.
Lastly, don’t forget to take care of yourself during this transition. Whether it’s talking to friends, indulging in your hobbies, or practicing self-care, make sure you’re giving yourself the space to breathe and recharge.
You’re capable of amazing things, and this challenge is just a stepping stone to a brighter future. You’ve got this!
