Supporting Your Partner’s Transition to Freelance Bookkeeping: Insights and Strategies
Embarking on the journey of freelancing can be both exhilarating and daunting, especially for those making the leap from traditional employment to self-employment. My wife is now poised to take that brave step, moving away from working for others to fully embracing her own Bookkeeping business. With a robust background of 15-20 years in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she has gained substantial expertise across various sectors, including managing payroll for over 800 employees in a cable company, overseeing financials as an office manager for a real estate developer, and supporting the fiscal needs of a construction and painting company, as well as an auto repair business.
She has honed her skills in QuickBooks and is diligently completing all available certifications with the platform. With her website nearing completion and her engagement letter finalized, it’s time for her to start seeking clients actively. Although she will not be providing tax services and does not hold a CPA or EA designation, her target market will consist of small to mid-sized businesses and startups looking for an affordable and efficient bookkeeping solution. Her strengths include transforming disorganized financial records into coherent accounts and delivering comprehensive reports like profit and loss statements and balance sheets, all while emphasizing automation to enhance efficiency.
One of her initial strategies involves collaborating with local CPA firms to build relationships and offer her services as a valuable resource. However, we’re curious: what is the best approach to connect with these firms? Should she reach out via email, make a phone call, or consider a face-to-face visit? Furthermore, we would greatly appreciate any advice on making a favorable first impression.
We are also exploring hourly billing as a potential pricing model, but we are open to suggestions that could diversify her client acquisition strategy. Any additional tips for landing clients or enhancing her outreach efforts would be immensely helpful.
Thank you for your insights and support as she navigates this exciting new chapter!
