Ready to Launch: Seeking Insights for a New Freelance Bookkeeping Venture
As my wife prepares to embark on her journey as a freelance bookkeeper, we find ourselves looking for insights from seasoned professionals in the field. After dedicating nearly two decades to Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is ready to leave the corporate world behind and pursue her passion independently.
Her extensive background includes a variety of roles, such as a staff accountant and supervisor managing payroll for over 800 employees at a major cable company, as well as office manager and bookkeeper for a real estate development firm, a construction company, and an auto repair shop. This rich experience has equipped her with a well-rounded skill set ideal for a freelance Bookkeeping business.
She is highly proficient in QuickBooks and is currently completing her certifications to ensure she is fully prepared. With her website nearing completion, an engagement letter drafted, and an updated resume in hand, she is on the cusp of beginning her marketing efforts.
It’s important to note that she won’t be providing tax services and does not hold a CPA or EA designation. Instead, her focus will be on assisting small to mid-sized businesses and startups, offering them an economical solution. She excels at organizing chaotic financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, creating balance sheets, and providing cost-cutting recommendations—all with a keen interest in automation to enhance efficiency.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. We would like to know the best way to make initial contact—should we utilize email, make phone calls, or opt for a personal visit? Additionally, any tips for leaving a lasting positive impression during these interactions would be greatly appreciated.
We’re also eager to hear any suggestions for securing clients or any general advice for newcomers in the freelance bookkeeping landscape.
Thank you for your insights and support as we embark on this exciting new chapter!
