My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Starting Her Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals

After many years in the corporate world, my wife is taking a bold step toward independence by launching her own freelance Bookkeeping business. With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she has honed her skills in various roles ranging from a staff accountant and payroll supervisor for a cable company managing payroll for over 800 employees, to serving as an office manager and bookkeeper for a real estate developer, construction firm, painting company, and auto mechanic shop. Her extensive background has prepared her well for this new venture.

As she prepares to enter the freelance landscape, she is currently finalizing her website and completing all available QuickBooks certifications. She has already drafted her engagement letter and updated her resume, positioning herself to start marketing her services very soon.

It’s important to mention that she will not be offering tax services and is not a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA). Instead, she aims to target small to mid-sized businesses and startups, providing them with an affordable bookkeeping solution. Her skills allow her to efficiently clean up disorganized financial records, generate profit and loss statements and balance sheets, and deliver insightful recommendations on cost-cutting measures. In today’s digital age, she is particularly focused on leveraging automation to enhance efficiency for her clients.

One of our initial strategies is to connect with local CPA firms for potential referral partnerships. To make a strong first impression, I would like to gather advice from seasoned professionals regarding the best way to approach these firms. Should we reach out via email, make phone calls, or consider a face-to-face visit? Additionally, any tips on presenting her services effectively and establishing a positive relationship would be greatly appreciated.

As she plans to charge clients on an hourly basis, I’m also open to any other strategies or recommendations you may have for attracting and retaining clients in this competitive field.

Your insights and experiences would be invaluable as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career. Thank you for your support!
