My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Expert Advice

As my wife prepares to embark on her new journey as a freelance bookkeeper, we are reaching out for insights from seasoned professionals in the field. After 15-20 years of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she has cultivated a wealth of knowledge and is eager to transition from employee to entrepreneur.

Her background is impressive, having served in various roles including staff accountant and supervisor at a cable company, office manager for a real estate developer, and Bookkeeping for a construction firm and auto repair shop. This diverse experience has equipped her with a solid foundation in financial management.

Currently, she is enhancing her proficiency in QuickBooks, completing the last of her certifications, and finalizing her website. With an engagement letter and updated resume in hand, she is on the brink of starting her marketing efforts to attract clients.

While she will not be providing tax services and is not a CPA or EA, her target market includes smaller, mid-sized, and emerging businesses seeking efficient, cost-effective bookkeeping solutions. With her ability to streamline messy financial records, generate profit and loss statements, and offer actionable cost-cutting advice, she is set to deliver valuable services. Automation will be a key focus in her approach.

Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. We’re contemplating how best to make that first contact. Would it be more effective to connect via email, a phone call, or perhaps a face-to-face visit? Additionally, we’d appreciate any tips for creating a positive first impression during this outreach.

We plan to charge on an hourly basis and are open to any suggestions on acquiring clients or general best practices for building a successful freelance bookkeeping business.

Your insights would be greatly appreciated as we embark on this exciting new venture! Thank you!
