My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Taking the Leap: Guiding a New Freelance Bookkeeper’s Journey

As my wife prepares to embark on her new journey as a freelance bookkeeper, we find ourselves seeking insights from seasoned professionals in the field who can provide valuable advice. After dedicating nearly two decades to various roles in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is ready to take this significant step toward independence, leaving behind her previous employment.

Her background is impressive, with substantial experience gained as a staff accountant managing payroll for over 800 employees at a major cable company, as well as serving as an office manager and bookkeeper for a real estate developer and businesses in construction and auto repair. This diverse experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of various industries.

Currently, she’s finalizing her certification with QuickBooks and nearing the completion of her professional website. With her engagement letter and resume polished, she’s gearing up to attract new clients and establish her brand in the freelance Bookkeeping landscape.

It’s essential to note that her services will not include tax preparation, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Instead, she aims to focus on providing budget-friendly solutions to small and mid-sized businesses, particularly newer enterprises seeking assistance. Her expertise includes tidying up disorganized Bookkeeping, generating profit and loss statements, managing balance sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities—all priorities she can tackle with ease. Additionally, she emphasizes the importance of automating bookkeeping processes to enhance efficiency.

Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. However, we are unsure about the best method for this outreach. Should we prioritize emails, phone calls, or even in-person visits? We would greatly appreciate any advice on making a strong first impression and establishing a productive rapport with these firms.

Moreover, we are open to any recommendations for acquiring clients and general best practices in the freelance bookkeeping industry.

Thank you for your insights and support as we navigate this exciting new chapter!
