My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Advice from Seasoned Professionals

Starting a new venture can be both exciting and daunting, especially in the world of freelance Bookkeeping. My wife is on the cusp of embarking on her own journey in this field after dedicating nearly two decades to various roles in Accounting and Bookkeeping. With a wealth of experience under her belt – from managing payroll for over 800 employees at a leading cable company to overseeing financial operations for diverse sectors such as real estate, construction, and automobile repair – she’s well equipped for this new chapter.

Having honed her skills extensively in QuickBooks, she is currently completing the last of her certifications which will further empower her practice. Additionally, her website is nearing completion, the engagement letter is finalized, and her resume has been meticulously updated. Soon, she’ll begin marketing her services to potential clients.

It’s important to note that while she will not be providing tax services and is not a CPA or EA, she plans to target small to medium-sized firms as well as new business owners, offering them a cost-effective solution for their bookkeeping needs. From tidying up chaotic financial records to preparing comprehensive profit and loss statements, she is capable of managing various Accounting tasks with ease. Furthermore, she values automation and intends to implement it as a key component of her services.

As part of her initial outreach strategy, we are considering collaborating with local CPA firms. This leads me to a pivotal question: what is the best way to make that first contact? Should she reach out via email, make a phone call, or visit in person? Additionally, any tips for leaving a lasting impression during the first meeting would be immensely helpful.

We also plan to adopt an hourly billing model but are open to other suggestions on acquiring clients or general advice for newcomers in the bookkeeping industry.

Thank you for your insights and support as we navigate this exciting transition!
