Navigating the Freelance Bookkeeping Landscape: A New Venture
As my wife prepares to embark on her journey as a freelance bookkeeper, we are excitedly looking for insights from seasoned professionals in the field. After dedicating nearly 15-20 years to various roles within Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is ready to transition from traditional employment to entrepreneurship.
Her impressive background includes serving as a staff accountant and Accounting supervisor at a cable company, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees. Additionally, she has contributed her expertise as an office manager/bookkeeper for a real estate developer, as well as for several businesses in the construction, painting, and auto mechanic sectors. With such diverse experience under her belt, my wife is well-equipped to tackle the challenges of running her own Bookkeeping practice.
To enhance her skills, she has invested considerable time mastering QuickBooks and is currently completing all pertinent certifications. Her website is nearing completion, and she has crafted an engagement letter alongside an updated resume. Marketing for clients is on the horizon, with a focus on providing cost-effective bookkeeping solutions tailored for smaller, mid-sized, or newer businesses.
While tax services are off the table, her capabilities offer immense value—especially her knack for cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities. Automation is a significant priority in her approach, aiming to streamline processes for her future clients.
Building Connections with Local CPA Firms
As we strategize her entry into the market, one of our primary objectives is to connect with local CPA firms. We would appreciate advice on the best methods of outreach. Should we initiate contact via email, make phone calls, or consider a walk-in approach? What strategies could help create a positive first impression?
Additionally, we are contemplating an hourly billing structure and are open to further suggestions regarding client acquisition or best practices in establishing a successful freelance bookkeeping business.
Your insights and experiences would be invaluable as she takes this exciting step into professionalism on her own terms. Thank you for your support!
