Embarking on a New Venture: A Journey into Freelance Bookkeeping
As she prepares to take her first steps into the world of freelance Bookkeeping, my wife is excited to embrace her new career path after years of working for others. With a solid foundation built upon 15 to 20 years of comprehensive experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is more than equipped to tackle this new challenge head-on.
Her impressive professional background includes roles such as a staff accountant and Accounting supervisor, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, and served as an office manager and bookkeeper for various businesses, including a real estate developer, construction firm, painting company, and auto repair shop. Such diverse experiences have provided her with valuable insights and skills that she plans to leverage as she sets out to assist small to mid-sized businesses and startups.
Currently, she is honing her expertise in QuickBooks, completing all available certifications to ensure she remains at the forefront of Bookkeeping technology. Additionally, her website is nearing completion, and she has prepared an engagement letter while updating her resume to reflect her new freelance endeavor. With all of these elements falling into place, she is eager to begin marketing her services.
It is important to note that she will not be offering tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an Enrolled Agent (EA). Instead, she aims to provide a cost-effective solution for smaller operations, offering services such as cleaning up disorganized books, preparing profit and loss statements and balance sheets, and providing strategic advice on cost-cutting measures. She is keen on integrating automation within her services to enhance efficiency.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms, as we believe this could provide valuable networking opportunities. To make a great first impression, I seek guidance on the best approach for contacting these firms. What methods have proven effective in your experience—should she opt for an email, a phone call, or perhaps a personal visit? Additionally, any other tips for successfully landing new clients would be greatly appreciated.
As she prepares to bill on an hourly basis, we are open to any suggestions that might help her in this venture. Thank you in advance for your insights!
