Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals
After years of dedicated service in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife is embarking on an exhilarating journey to establish her own freelance Bookkeeping practice. With nearly two decades of rich experience under her belt, she is poised to take on clients and provide them with exceptional financial support.
Having held key roles such as a staff accountant/supervisor overseeing payroll for over 800 employees at a prominent cable company, as well as an office manager/bookkeeper for various businesses including a real estate developer, construction firm, painting company, and an auto mechanic shop, she possesses a well-rounded skill set. Her extensive expertise is complemented by her proficiency in QuickBooks, for which she is diligently pursuing all relevant certifications, and she is currently putting the finishing touches on her professional website.
Her engagement letter has been finalized, and her resume has been updated to reflect her wealth of experience. She is now ready to begin marketing her services to potential clients. Importantly, it’s worth noting that she will not be offering tax services and does not hold CPA or EA certifications. Instead, she aims to provide affordable bookkeeping solutions for small to mid-sized businesses and start-ups.
Her services will include cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements and balance sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities—all tasks she can execute with ease. Additionally, she is enthusiastic about incorporating automation into her processes to enhance efficiency.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms to explore potential collaboration opportunities. However, I seek guidance on the best approach to connect with these firms. Should we opt for email correspondence, a phone call, or perhaps a face-to-face visit? Any insights on how to create a positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.
Furthermore, I welcome any additional suggestions for acquiring clients or general advice to ensure a successful launch of her freelance bookkeeping career.
Thank you for your support and guidance!
