Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Guidance from Experienced Professionals
As my wife prepares to embark on her independent Bookkeeping career, we are eager to gather insights and advice from seasoned freelancers in the field. With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping under her belt, she is ready to transition from working for others to becoming her own boss.
Her extensive background includes serving as a staff accountant and supervisor in a cable company, managing payroll for over 800 employees, and acting as an office manager/bookkeeper for a range of businesses, including real estate developers, construction firms, and auto mechanics. With this wealth of experience, she feels well-equipped to make a mark in the freelance bookkeeping arena.
Currently, she is enhancing her skills with QuickBooks, completing every certification available, and putting the finishing touches on her website. With her engagement letter and updated resume in hand, she is on the brink of marketing her services to potential clients.
It’s important to note that she won’t be offering tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an Enrolled Agent (EA). Instead, her target audience includes smaller, mid-sized, and newer businesses looking for an economical bookkeeping solution. She has a knack for cleaning up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and delivering actionable cost-cutting recommendations. Additionally, she is keen to leverage automation in her processes to enhance efficiency.
Our initial strategy is to connect with local CPA firms to explore potential collaborations. I am seeking advice on the most effective approach to reach out—whether through email, phone calls, or in-person visits—and tips for making a lasting impression during these interactions.
Furthermore, we welcome any additional advice on acquiring clients and general recommendations for successfully launching a freelance bookkeeping practice.
Thank you in advance for your support and guidance!
