Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Expert Guidance
Starting a new venture is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking, especially when transitioning from employment to entrepreneurship. My wife, who has an impressive 15-20 years of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, is gearing up to take the plunge into the freelance world. With a diverse background that includes roles such as staff accountant supervising payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company and serving as an office manager/bookkeeper for various sectors including real estate development, construction, and automotive services, she is well-equipped to succeed.
With her extensive knowledge of QuickBooks and her ongoing efforts to complete all relevant certifications, my wife is diligently finalizing her website and has already crafted her engagement letter and updated her resume. She is almost ready to enter the market and attract new clients.
It’s worth noting that while she has substantial expertise, she will not be providing tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Her target clientele includes small to mid-sized businesses and newer operators looking for cost-effective Bookkeeping solutions. She excels at organizing disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing books, and identifying potential cost-saving measures—all with an emphasis on automating processes to enhance efficiency.
Our initial marketing strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. I would greatly appreciate insights from seasoned freelancers in the bookkeeping industry on the most effective approach to connect with these firms. Should we reach out via email, make phone calls, or consider walk-in visits? Additionally, any tips on making a strong first impression during these interactions would be invaluable.
We plan to operate on an hourly billing model and are also open to any further suggestions for attracting clients or general marketing advice.
Thank you for your assistance as we embark on this exciting journey!
