My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insights from Seasoned Professionals

After years of dedicated work in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife is ready to embark on an exciting new chapter: launching her own freelance Bookkeeping business. With an impressive 15 to 20 years of experience under her belt, she’s keen to leverage her extensive knowledge and skills to provide valuable services to small and mid-sized businesses.

Her professional journey has included diverse roles such as staff accountant and Accounting supervisor for a cable company—where she managed payroll for over 800 employees—as well as office manager and bookkeeper for various industries, including real estate development, construction, and auto mechanics. This diverse background has equipped her with a well-rounded understanding of financial management.

Currently, she is refining her expertise in QuickBooks and is on the verge of completing all available QuickBooks certifications. Her website is nearly ready, her engagement letter has been finalized, and her resume is up to date. The only thing left is to start attracting new clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services, as she is not a CPA or EA. Instead, her focus will be on providing cost-effective bookkeeping solutions for smaller, mid-sized, and newer companies. She excels at cleaning up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction. Additionally, she is placing a significant emphasis on automating processes to enhance efficiency.

As we initiate her outreach strategy, our first target will be local CPA firms. I would love to gather insights on the best methods to approach these firms. Should she reach out via email, make a phone call, or perhaps walk in for a personal visit? Any suggestions on creating a strong first impression would also be highly appreciated.

Furthermore, we are open to any advice on attracting clients in general and tips for establishing a solid foundation in this competitive field. We plan to bill on an hourly basis, and any guidance on pricing strategies or marketing techniques would be invaluable.

Thank you in advance for your contributions! Your expertise and advice will play a crucial role in helping her achieve success in her new venture.
