My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Embarking on a Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Insights from Industry Experts

My wife is on the brink of a significant career transition, and we’re seeking guidance from seasoned freelance bookkeepers as she prepares to launch her business.

After dedicating almost two decades to the Accounting and Bookkeeping industry, she has made the bold decision to step away from traditional employment and establish her own practice. Her extensive experience spans various roles, including serving as a staff accountant and supervisor in charge of payroll for a cable company with over 800 employees. Additionally, she has worked as an office manager and bookkeeper for a real estate developer, a construction firm, a painting business, and an auto repair shop. This diverse background has equipped her with a well-rounded skill set and a profound understanding of various financial operations.

Currently, she is honing her proficiency in QuickBooks, completing all available certifications, and finalizing her professional website. With an engagement letter in place and her resume updated, she is nearly ready to delve into client marketing.

It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Instead, she aims to cater to small and mid-sized businesses, offering them a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. Her expertise includes cleaning up disorganized accounts, preparing profit and loss statements, generating balance sheets, and recommending cost-saving strategies—all areas she navigates with ease. Automation is also a focal point in her approach, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in her work.

Our initial strategy involves outreach to local CPA firms. We would greatly appreciate insights on the best methods for making that first contact. Should we opt for a cold email, a direct phone call, or perhaps a walk-in visit? We want to create a strong first impression, so any additional tips would be incredibly valuable.

We anticipate billing clients on an hourly basis and are open to any additional suggestions regarding client acquisition strategies or best practices in establishing herself in this competitive field.

Thank you for your support and insights as my wife embarks on this exciting new chapter!
