Embarking on a Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals
After years of dedicated work in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife is gearing up to launch her own freelance Bookkeeping business. With an impressive background spanning 15 to 20 years, she has honed her skills in diverse roles, including a staff accountant and supervisor managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, as well as serving as an office manager and bookkeeper for various companies in real estate development, construction, and automotive services.
Her extensive knowledge of QuickBooks is complemented by her commitment to professional growth, as she is actively completing all available certifications with the platform. Additionally, her website is nearing completion, and she has finalized both her engagement letter and resume—putting her one step closer to opening her services to the public.
It’s worth noting that while she possesses a wealth of bookkeeping expertise, she will not be offering tax-related services and is not a CPA or EA. Her primary focus will be on providing cost-effective solutions for small to mid-sized businesses, particularly those just starting out. My wife is adept at organizing disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, crafting balance sheets, and identifying potential areas for cost savings—all while prioritizing automation in her processes.
As part of her initial client acquisition strategy, she plans to reach out to local CPA firms for potential partnerships. I would love to hear from seasoned freelancers about the best way to approach these firms. Should her outreach be primarily through email, phone calls, or perhaps even in-person visits? Any strategies for making a strong, positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, we are open to any tips on securing clients in this competitive landscape, as well as general guidance that could help her in her freelance Accounting venture.
Thank you for your insights!
