Title: Starting a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture: Seeking Advice from the Community
Embarking on a new business venture can be both exciting and daunting, especially for those transitioning from a stable job to freelancing. My wife is on the cusp of this journey, and we’re seeking insights from seasoned freelance bookkeepers to smooth the path ahead.
After dedicating 15 to 20 years to various roles in Accounting and Bookkeeping, my wife is ready to take the leap into freelancing. Her extensive experience includes managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, serving as an office manager for a real estate developer, and overseeing financial operations for a construction and auto repair business. With such a diverse background, she is well-prepared to tackle the challenges that come with running her own practice.
In preparation for her new venture, she has been sharpening her skills with QuickBooks and is in the process of completing several key certifications. Additionally, she is finalizing her website, has established an engagement letter, and has updated her resume. This groundwork positions her well as she begins marketing her services.
It’s essential to note that while she will not be providing tax services and isn’t a CPA or EA, she aims to help small to mid-sized businesses and startups as a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. Her expertise includes cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and offering strategic advice on cost-cutting—all streamlined through automation, which is a priority for her.
To kick off her client acquisition strategy, we plan to reach out to local CPA firms. We’re particularly curious about the best methods for making initial contact. Should she send an email, make a phone call, or drop in for a face-to-face conversation? Additionally, any tips for making a strong first impression would be highly appreciated.
We’re also open to any further suggestions for attracting clients or general advice that could aid her in this new chapter.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to the valuable insights from the community!
