My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Embarking on a Freelance Accounting Journey: Seeking Insights from Experienced Bookkeepers

My wife is on the brink of an exciting new chapter in her career, transitioning from traditional employment to independent freelancing as a bookkeeper. With nearly two decades of diverse experience in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, she is eager to carve out her niche and provide essential services to small and mid-sized businesses.

Throughout her career, she has held various roles, including managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, handling Accounting duties as an office manager for a real estate developer, and working in the construction and automotive sectors. Her broad skill set encompasses an in-depth understanding of QuickBooks and she is diligently completing all available certifications with the platform. Her website is in its final stages of development, and she has already crafted a comprehensive engagement letter and updated her resume to reflect her robust experience.

As she prepares to launch her freelance Bookkeeping business, she is focusing on a specific target market: smaller, mid-sized, and newer companies in need of cost-effective accounting solutions. While her services will not include tax assistance, her strengths lie in cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying areas for cost reduction—all tasks that she handles with confidence and efficiency. Emphasizing automation within her services is also a key priority.

The first step in her outreach strategy involves connecting with local CPA firms. She is keen to understand the best methods for making initial contact. Should she reach out via email, initiate a phone call, or perhaps visit in person? Furthermore, any advice on creating a memorable and positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.

We are also exploring pricing strategies, aiming to bill clients hourly while ensuring that our services remain competitive and valuable.

In addition to seeking guidance on forging relationships with CPA firms, we welcome any other tips on attracting clients and general recommendations from seasoned bookkeepers. Your insights and experiences would be invaluable as she embarks on this entrepreneurial venture.

Thank you for your support!
