Navigating the Freelance Bookkeeping Landscape: Seeking Your Expertise
Embarking on the journey of entrepreneurship can be both thrilling and intimidating, particularly in the world of freelance Bookkeeping. My wife is on the brink of launching her own Bookkeeping business after dedicating 15-20 years to the Accounting field. Her extensive experience encompasses roles such as staff accountant and supervisor for a major cable company, office manager and bookkeeper for various industries including real estate development, construction, and automotive services.
With a robust proficiency in QuickBooks and as she finalizes her certifications, her professional website is nearing completion. She has also prepared an engagement letter and polished her resume, putting her in a strong position to begin reaching out to potential clients.
Her focus will be on small to mid-sized businesses, particularly startups looking for a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. Although she will not provide tax services and is not a CPA or EA, her talents lie in organizing messy financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, creating balance sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities—all areas in which she excels. Additionally, she is keen on implementing automation to streamline processes for her clients.
As we prepare to approach local CPA firms as a means of client acquisition, I would appreciate any guidance from seasoned freelance bookkeepers on the best tactics for making initial contact. Should we opt for an email introduction, a phone call, or perhaps a face-to-face visit? What strategies might help in leaving a strong first impression?
We are planning to operate on an hourly billing model and are open to any insights or recommendations regarding client acquisition strategies or general advice. Your expertise and experience would be immensely valuable as we navigate this new chapter.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
