My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture: Seeking Advice from Seasoned Professionals

Embarking on a new business journey can be both exciting and daunting, especially when transitioning from employment to entrepreneurship. My wife is currently preparing to take this leap and establish her own freelance Bookkeeping practice. With nearly two decades of experience in the Accounting field, she is well-equipped to tackle the challenges ahead.

Throughout her career, she has held various roles, including staff accountant and supervisor at a cable company, office manager and bookkeeper for a real estate developer, and Bookkeeping for several trades including construction and auto mechanics. This diverse background has provided her with a robust skill set, particularly in QuickBooks, which she is enhancing by completing additional certifications.

Her website is nearly finished, and crucial documents such as the engagement letter and an updated resume are ready to go. Her primary focus will be on providing bookkeeping services—cleaning up disorganized records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities—all without offering tax services.

Targeting small to mid-sized companies, especially newer operators, she aims to become a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. Optimizing processes through automation will also be a key aspect of her services.

As she prepares for her launch, a significant strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. I’m seeking advice on the best approach for initiating contact with these firms. Should she reach out via email, make a phone call, or consider a walk-in visit? Any insights into making a favorable first impression would be greatly appreciated.

We’re also looking for general suggestions on acquiring clients and best practices as she builds her brand in the competitive freelance bookkeeping landscape. Your knowledge and experience could be invaluable in helping her start strong.

Thank you for your guidance!
