My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insights from the Pros

As my wife prepares to transition into freelancing after years of working for others, we are excited to share her journey into the world of independent Bookkeeping. With a wealth of experience in Accounting spanning 15 to 20 years, she is primed to start her own business and help clients streamline their financial processes.

Her extensive background includes roles such as a staff accountant, overseeing payroll for over 800 employees at a prominent cable company, and serving as an office manager and bookkeeper in various industries, including real estate development, construction, and automotive. This diverse experience has equipped her with a comprehensive skill set that she is eager to deploy in her new venture.

Currently, she is wrapping up her final QuickBooks certifications, and her website is nearing completion. With her engagement letter and resume updated, she is poised to begin marketing her services to potential clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and is not a CPA or EA. Instead, her focus will be on supporting smaller, mid-sized, and newer businesses by providing a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. Her capabilities include tidying up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-saving opportunities—all of which she can manage with ease. Automation is a key priority for her, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in her work.

To kickstart her client acquisition, we are considering reaching out to local CPA firms. I would love to gather advice from seasoned freelance bookkeepers on the most effective way to connect with these firms. Should we initiate contact via email, phone call, or in-person visits? Additionally, any tips on making a strong first impression would be invaluable.

We plan to bill clients hourly and are open to any suggestions on how to secure clients and navigate the initial stages of this business.

Thank you for your insights as we embark on this exciting new chapter!
