Venturing into Freelance Bookkeeping: Seeking Advice from Experienced Professionals
As my wife prepares to embark on her journey as a freelance bookkeeper, she’s eager to connect with experienced professionals who can offer valuable insights into this exciting new chapter. After dedicating 15-20 years to roles in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is ready to take the leap into self-employment.
Her extensive background includes positions as a staff accountant and supervisor managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, as well as handling Bookkeeping responsibilities for a real estate development firm, a construction business, and an auto repair shop. With a wealth of experience under her belt, she has become well-versed in the intricacies of bookkeeping.
Currently, she is enhancing her skill set by completing her certifications in QuickBooks and wrapping up her website development. Additionally, her engagement letter is finalized, and her resume has been updated in preparation for taking on new clients. Marketing efforts are just around the corner.
It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax-related services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Her target clientele includes small to mid-sized businesses and startups that are seeking a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. She excels in streamlining messy financial records, managing profit and loss statements, creating balance sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities. A strong focus on automation will be part of her approach to bookkeeping.
Initially, she plans to reach out to local CPA firms, and we would appreciate your guidance on the best way to approach them. Should she reach out via email, make phone calls, or consider an in-person visit? What strategies can she employ to make a favorable first impression?
Furthermore, we welcome any additional suggestions for attracting clients or general advice on establishing a freelance bookkeeping practice.
Thank you for your insights and support as she embarks on this new venture!
