Launching A Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insights and Advice
Embarking on the journey of entrepreneurship is an exciting step, and my wife is on the verge of doing just that. After nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she’s ready to transition from working for others to establishing her own freelance practice.
Her background is impressive, having held various positions that include staff accountant and Accounting supervisor for a large cable company, office manager/bookkeeper for a real estate development firm, and roles in diverse sectors such as construction and automotive services. With extensive knowledge in QuickBooks and a commitment to completing certifications through their program, she is diligently finalizing her online presence and service offerings.
Having prepared her engagement letter and updated her resume, she is eager to start reaching out to potential clients. It’s important to note that while she has a wealth of experience, she will not be providing tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials. Instead, she is focused on assisting smaller, mid-sized, or newer businesses seeking a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. Her skill set includes cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, creating balance sheets, and offering valuable insights on cost-cutting opportunities.
Her initial strategy involves connecting with local CPA firms, and this is where we would appreciate your expertise. What is the best method for establishing contact? Should we opt for an email, make a phone call, or even consider a walk-in visit? Furthermore, what tips can you provide for making a strong and memorable first impression?
We envision billing on an hourly basis, and we are also open to any suggestions you might have for acquiring clients and navigating the early stages of this exciting venture.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights! Your guidance could make a significant difference as she embarks on this new chapter.
